Recently I had to meet my business partner for a quick touch base session. It was a Monday night after my grad school classes so I wasn’t really looking for anything special. Just something convenient. We end up at L’Hommage Bistro Francais, the quaint little french restaurant that opened across from City Vista and Busboys and Poets on K Street. I’d been here before but being the lush that I am, I’d only had wine previously. And that wine was divine, thanks to the wonderful server who obviously being french herself, knows her french wines.
Well the same server was there and of course I was willing to take her wine suggestions and heck food suggestions too. But let me back up a moment to what you feel when you enter L’Hommage. Pretty much everyone you encounter as staff speaks french. The language is so beautiful. You immediately feel like you are somewhere special. Although it isn’t a tiny restaurant, you still get the quaint feel with the dim lights and white table tops. Unlike some of the “fancy but gaudy” reviews I have done this place is just understated elegance. As Ashleigh said to me “It seems like every patron in here is cultured”. But not in a snotty way. Ash and I actually made friends while there.
So we let our server who I will from here on out refer to Frederique. I told her she is now my new friend. Her service is impeccable. She suggested the foie gras that was laid on a bed of apricots. WWWWWOOOOOOWWWWW! She even walked us through the best way to enjoy all of the flavors, by slicing the foie gras and apricot and layering it on the baguette and then sipping the perfect pinot grigio. HEAVEN!!! She didn’t hover but stayed close enough to notice that I had become so busy talking I hadn’t eaten my soup (french onion of course). She told me “Madame, I will heat this up for you”. I love the restaurant by itself but Frederique really makes me want to make this one of my hangouts. She also allows us to use our limited french without feeling like fools!!! as Ashleigh said “This isn’t just dinner, it’s an experience!”
Please, if you can, definitely try L’Hommage Bistro Francais!
